My First Semester

Posted by Cameron Johnson on Dec 4, 2013 in Uncategorized

Transitioning from high school to college is hard for most people. You usually aren’t living in your house, and the course work and load is more significant. Living alone gave me more freedom to do what I want to do and also gave me a comfortable feeling such as that I don’t have to worry about someone screaming over a hockey or football game, yelling at each other, constant barking from our dog, etc. There are a lot of options when it comes to food, the only limiting factor is money or how many meals you have left. The college provides each student with a lot of resources such as the Academic Resource Center and the Career Planning Center. The centers at the college are there to help you. I was subjected with less classes than I was in high school and the classes were the same amount of time. Thanks to my schedule I only have one class on Tuesday and no classes on Thursday. Essentially I am off every other day. You would expect that I have a lot of free time, however, I have sports and a lot of sleep to catch up on. (about 12 years worth) With rowing, school work, and extra practice I am luck y getting to sleep at the appropriate time each night. The friends I have made, although mostly from the crew team, and some of the best friends I have had. Not nearly as much since high school but I am a freshman so I’m not expecting the entire class to know who I am like in high school.

My Favorite E-Commerce Site

Posted by Cameron Johnson on Nov 24, 2013 in Uncategorized

My favorite online store would probably be Amazon. This is mostly because I haven’t used many others. To me Amazon is the virtual version of a mall. Anything you could possibly want can be found on Amazon. It even competes with eBay in that you can auction off products on their website. The only thing Amazon is missing is whole foods that can be delivered within hours. I have found myself purchasing products from Amazon more and more over the years and have yet to complain about anything. Amazon’s previous business model were books. Amazon started out selling books to the public. Later in the years as our generation went through a technological advancement stage, Amazon released one of the most popular tablets the kindle. The kindle not only features the Android system but was originally an eBook platform. eBook, if not Amazon somewhere else, started with Amazon. It eliminates the need to store your hundred of books in whatever location where as you can now store hundreds of books on one device and its easy to find them. I don’t believe there is another store that rivals with Amazon. Amazon even provides people with special offers so that the word will spread and they will get more customers.

Social Network

The movie was good in my opinion. I wasn’t here for the first part so I cant say much. I think it waas a good story but I feel that Mark’s story shouldn’t be movie worthy. I have a connection to the movie because my name is Cameron and I row in college much the Cameron in the movie. I feel bad for Eduardo for getting “screwed” like that. Imagine how much money Eduardo would have now if things didn’t go wrong for him. I like how in the movie Marl had everything under his control whether it be direct or indirect, he used Shane to his advantage and gave him what he deserved in the long run. Movie Review 8/10

The NEW iPhone 6?!

Posted by Cameron Johnson on Oct 15, 2013 in Uncategorized

In think that the iPhone 5S is a complete waste of money if you already have the iPhone 5. To me it doesn’t matter if a phone is milliseconds faster the the last one. The 5C, I think was a great idea. Besides it being plastic which is a down side. It costs at least 100-200 dollars less than the iPhone 5S. People seem to forget that the 5C is an iPhone 5 and its really cheap.  I have heard a lot of rumors around the iPhones, such as a holographic screen or a hologram keyboard. To me the iPhone can be better if they allow flash player on the iPhone and maybe even out the screen a little. I feel that the phone is to tall and not wide enough. I have a Sony Xperia Z which has a quad core and can run flash. Its like a phone/tablet. It can run things almost as fast as my computer. This phone is so much more powerful than any other phone I had, and Andriod doesn’t keep updating their firmware. Apple keeps releasing new iOS like every 6 months. I haven’t gotten an update for android yet.

How has Information Technology changed my life

Posted by Cameron Johnson on Sep 23, 2013 in Uncategorized

Ever since I was a child I have been interested in technology. I remember when I got  my first phone. This phone did nothing except keep an alarm and call people. At the time it didn’t have a SIM Card or no service so all I could do was pretend to make calls. Of course I was a child at the time the joy of having a device that had the power to connect to people’s conversations wirelessly amazed me. When I received my first phone I started to stay more connected with my friends and occasionally update my schedule each day. When I entered High School 4 years ago, our coach had a “thing” for writing emails. This kept me up to date with our workout schedule. Now I have a habit of preparing for things weeks before I need to to even worry about them. When I started Facebook I started to stay connected with my friends. I was on it almost everyday, however I started to stop using Facebook after my sophomore year. Without information technology I don’t think I would be anywhere as organized as I am now.

United States and Syria

I don’t know where I stand on this. I believe that violence isn’t the answer to anything. However we may need to retaliate. I’m not to informed on the subject however I believe that violence only leads to more violence. It will will just be constant conflict and it doesn’t stop and I don’t think I will be alive when/if us two countries even come to an agreement for whatever it is. We constantly have wars over meaningless things. I am speaking on an atheistic point of view, I believe that a war over religion is a waste of resources and men. Countless people die over another’s opinion. We both think that if we fight we’ll eventually come to a resolution or an ending, but I think that this ending that we fight for isn’t even that great. Sure we get to see the family members that were fighting in the war, but what about those who find out that there father or brother or uncle died in the war. They weep and sob over their lost one where as others are happy and rejoicing that their loved one returned with or without battle scars. As per what I said before, “Was it really worth it?”

First Impression

Posted by Cameron Johnson on Sep 2, 2013 in Uncategorized

I felt that Marietta College or College in general is a completely different experience. I am used to going to school staring at around 7:30 and not get home till around 4:00. You are given more freedom where as in high school you are required to go to school and without an excuse an absence isn’t excused. Sports here at Marietta is different on a college level compared to a high school level. In college you have to be more committed to your sports, in high school it wasn’t as big a deal.  I also don’t have class everyday and my longest day is spread out so that I am in class for no more than three hours. I am enjoying my college experience.

Where Am I Wearing?

Common Reading Essay

Reading Kelsey Timmerman’s, “Where am I Wearing?” I come to realize that the clothes I wear, I should appreciate more. Reading this book I have realized that it doesn’t matter what I wear someone somewhere went through the trouble to make me these clothes that I wear everyday and I treat like trash because I’m done wearing them for the day. Speaking on a larger scale mistreating someone’s hard work such as clothes and an iPhone; there should be no difference just because they are a different price. We judge the quality of things with the amount of money that we bought it for. You don’t see someone throwing there iPhone around after they made a call but after someone has worn a shirt that was handmade they throw it in a bin. I can relate to some people as I myself have thrown my clothes around aimlessly after wearing them. I need to treat them as well as I would treat my phone that may be hundreds of dollars more but were both designed by people. I don’t have many clothes but I have enough that I don’t treat them with care I could give up a couple shirts and maybe one or two pairs of pants. After reading this book I realize that clothes are, or at least should be as valuable as expensive products such as an iPhone. If I were to visit some of these countries Kelsey did and meet some of the workers that he did, I would thank them from the bottom of my heart. Since I am a rower and have been for the past couple of years going out with friends wasn’t much of an option especially when my grades weren’t on par. Being on the rowing team I really can’t wear jeans or anything. So I mostly wore spandex and maybe a shirt. These shirts however were shirts from races I went to, as far as Canada. I never toke the time to even check where the shirts even came from, in fact sometimes I would even rip the tags off because they would irritate me. My perspective of clothes factories probably isn’t up to date however; I know it’s more strenuous than being a busboy at your local restaurant. Someone has to make our clothes, someone has to go through the trouble to design them, and I don’t even have the common courtesy to go out and buy decent clothes that someone else has worked on. The general community should learn from this book and reflect on the fact that someone made all the clothes that they are wearing.
