My name is Caleb Muller and I am a rising senior at Marietta College. I am a Computer Information Systems major with a minor in Leadership Studies. I will graduate in May of 2013 and will be looking for an entry level information systems position. I plan to go into the Peace Corps and then graduate school after working for a couple of years.
My high school years were spent at Bexley High School in Columbus, Ohio, where I graduated with Summa Cum Laude Honors. I was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Cum Laude Society. I took numerous Advanced Placement courses including U.S. History, U.S. Government, Language and Composition, Statistics, European History, Calculus B.C., Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. I also was the recipient of the Rensselaer Medal (most distinguished rising senior in mathematics and chemistry), the Bexley Math Cup (most excellent mathematics student), the Columbus Dispatch Scholar Athlete Award, and a number of other recognitions for Cross Country and Track and Field.
At this point, I am involved in numerous activities on Marietta College’s campus. I am on the Cross Country and Track and Field teams, a teacher’s assistant for LEAD 140 (a one credit course that teaches facilitation and Robert’s Rules), a member of the Technology Advisory Committee (A committee of Faculty, Students, and Administration focusing on campus technology issues), a tutor in physics, mathematics, and chemistry for the Academic Resource Center, and a peer mentor for a freshman FYE class for next semester. I was also just elected as the treasurer for Marietta College’s Student Senate and the vice president for the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society on campus.
As I previously stated, graduate school is on my radar, but I am not one-hundred percent sure what exactly I would specialize in. I know right now that I love working with computers, but not a specific area. Since this is my passion, I have been familiarizing myself with html, css, and java using online tutorials and I plan to use Harvard’s Open Learning Initiative to take some courses on programming. I hope that learning these skills will help me to figure out exactly where I want to take my CIS degree.
