After playing baseball and basketball my entire life I decided to attempt a new sport when I arrived at Marietta College. The sport of choice was tennis. I had little to no experience with tennis before college but with practice and determination I sharpened myskills and was able to reach a level of ability that was capable of contributing to the varsity tennis team at Marietta. Deciding to play tennis instead of one of the sports I was familiar with opened my eyes to an entire new world of technique, strategy, and conditioning unlike other sports. I was years behind the typical learning curve for a tennis player but I was determined to compete and win at a college level. By the first match I was seeded fourth on the team and competing at a respectable level. It took until the third match of the season to break into the win column, but once I did I settled down and realized my hard work had made it possible for me to win. That freshman season I won six of my thirteen matches and now going into my third season with the team I am one of the vocal leaders on the team.
